Candles

I have a thing for candles, but they get spendy so I buy them and then never light them and enjoy them because im trying to 'save' them. So I decided to start making my own and I had alot of fun today making my first batch of candles. Its so easy, time consuming, but easy.   I used carrot cake fragrance for the holidays. I didnt use color because I've always like natural color candles best.  So now you all know what your getting for the holidays from us.(cheapies that we are) I'm excited to make more batches now with more scents. They are almost 100% beeswax so should be very long burning. Much longer than store bought candles, like yankee, that use many synthetic fillers to make the candle burn faster (more money for them when you have to replace it sooner) and because synthetic fillers are cheaper. To make one pound (16 oz.) of beeswax, a worker bee will eat 10 pounds of honey and visit 33 million flower blossoms over 150,000 miles! So companies that make large volumes of candles want to cut their prices and so they use alot of synthetic ingredients. Check out this info on paraffin wax, which is what most candles are made of. Then check out this page on beeswax. What a difference. Last week I made a bunch of homemade chapstick because of the same concept. Companies use cheap filler ing. to make things cheaper. My chapstick has only olive oil, cocounut oil, sweet almond oil, and unbleached 100% natural beeswax. As you can tell I have a thing for homemade, natural products because I think it does us , and the earth, a big favor. (I put that in just for you, dad) ok, maybe i should get off my soapbox (pun intended) now.
